Terms of service
Last updated: 18 October 2026
These terms apply when you use the FixMate-SA app or website, run by FIXMATE-SA ("FixMate", "we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to them and to our privacy policy. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
1. What FixMate is
FixMate is an online marketplace. It helps clients find independent service providers, agree on a price, pay safely, follow the work and leave reviews. Providers are independent businesses or individuals, not FixMate employees or agents. The agreement for the work itself is between the client and the provider; each provider is responsible for the quality, safety and legality of their work.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older, give true and complete details, and keep them up to date.
- One account per person. Keep your password private; you are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Identity details (name, ID number, date of birth, gender, nationality) are locked once saved. Ask support to correct a mistake.
3. Providers
- Providers must complete identity verification (ID document and live selfie) before taking jobs, and keep their listings, prices, VAT status and bank details accurate.
- You must hold any licence, registration, certificate of compliance or insurance the law requires for your work (for example electrical work), and you are responsible for your own tax.
- Your FixMate track record (response times, completed and cancelled jobs, disputes, ratings) affects where your listings appear.
4. Ways to book
- Fixed price: the client books a listed price and pays before the provider is asked.
- Quotes: the client describes the job, the provider sends a written quote, and the price and scope are locked when the client accepts it. A large quote may be split into stages: the client pays in full up front and the provider is paid stage by stage as the client approves each one.
- Inspection visits: where a job must be seen first, the client pays the provider's call-out fee; any repair is quoted separately.
- Contract jobs: a quote can be paid phase by phase, or as repeat visits (weekly, every two weeks or monthly). Each phase or visit is paid before it starts and runs as its own booking. Either side may end a contract; phases not yet paid are then cancelled, and paid phases continue as normal bookings.
- Extra work: if more work is needed during a job, the provider proposes it in the app and the client approves and pays for it there. Do not agree extra payments outside the app.
5. Payments, fees and payouts
- Clients pay through FixMate's payment providers (Paystack, or Stitch when FixMate uses it). The money is held by FixMate until the work is confirmed.
- The provider is paid when the client confirms the job (or each phase or stage), or automatically if the client does not respond within the time shown in the app, unless a dispute is open. FixMate keeps the service fee shown before payment; the rest goes to the provider's FixMate wallet.
- Completion code: once a paid job is accepted, the client's app shows a 6-digit completion code. Giving this code to the provider is the same as confirming the job in the app and releases the payment, so the client should give it only when satisfied with the work. It works without signal. The client may still open a dispute afterwards, in line with these terms.
- Prices include VAT where the provider is VAT-registered. FixMate's own fee includes VAT where FixMate is VAT-registered.
- Promotion codes are funded by FixMate and never reduce what the provider earns. They cannot be used on contract jobs.
- Providers withdraw their wallet balance to their own bank account, within the minimum amount and limits shown in the app.
- Boosts (paid featured listings) and FixMate PRO (a monthly provider plan, billed through Google Play or the App Store) are paid in advance; the price, duration and what you get are shown before you pay. A boosted listing is marked as featured.
- Refunds go back the way the money was paid. Card refunds are made through the payment provider; for pay-by-bank payments, FixMate arranges the refund.
6. Keep it on FixMate
To protect both sides, phone numbers, email addresses, links and similar contact details are blocked in chat and quotes until a job is paid and accepted. Do not try to get around this, or arrange to pay outside FixMate for work found on FixMate. Repeated attempts lead to warnings, strikes and suspension, and work paid outside FixMate is not covered by our payment protection or disputes.
7. Doing the job
- Providers should accept or decline requests promptly, arrive on time, and do the work agreed.
- Providers may be asked to take before and after photos with the in-app camera. These are stamped with the date, time and job number and are shared with the client and FixMate as a record of the work.
- Clients should give accurate job details, safe access to the work area, and confirm the work promptly once it is done.
8. Cancellations
Cancellation rules and any fees are shown in the app before you confirm. In general: a client can cancel without charge before the provider accepts; after acceptance or once work has started, a cancellation fee may apply; a provider who cancels after accepting or does not arrive may be charged a fee and receive a strike. Refunds of held money are made as described in section 5.
9. Disputes
If something goes wrong, open a dispute in the app before the job is settled. Payment is put on hold while FixMate reviews the messages, quotes, photos, reports and payment records from both sides. FixMate then decides how the held money is released (for example in full to the provider, a full or partial refund to the client) and explains the decision. This process does not stop you from using your other legal rights.
10. Reviews
Only clients with a completed job can review it. Reviews must be honest and about the job. We may remove reviews that are fake, abusive, contain personal information, or break the law.
11. Fair use
No fraud, false identities, harassment, discrimination, threats, false reviews, illegal work, or attempts to break, copy or misuse the app. We may warn, restrict, suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we will tell you why. You can ask us to review the decision.
12. Liability
FixMate provides the platform with reasonable care and skill. Except where the law says otherwise (including the Consumer Protection Act), FixMate is not responsible for the quality of a provider's work, for loss caused by a client or provider, or for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable. Our total responsibility to you for any one booking is limited to the amount paid through FixMate for it, except where the law does not allow this limit.
13. Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, reviews and text you add. You allow FixMate to store and show them in the app, as needed to run the service, resolve disputes and keep records. The FixMate name, logo and app belong to FIXMATE-SA.
14. Closing your account
You may delete your account at any time (Profile → Delete account), once no job is under way and your wallet is empty. We may close accounts that break these terms; money owed to a provider for completed work will still be paid, less any amounts owed to FixMate.
15. Changes and law
We may update these terms. We will change the date above and tell you in the app about important changes before they apply. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
